At Matrix Partners, we love bringing talent and passion to our team. Pet lovers, tenacious marketers, avid writers – we’ve been able to compile a group of people who genuinely enjoy what they do.
Recently, we hired a new graphic designer named Natalie. She’s bubbly and excited, eager and creative. Below, in her own words, she recounts how she ended up on the MP team.
I never used to believe acquiring a creative skill could be genetic, but as a third generation designer I’m having second thoughts on this theory. When we were kids, my dad would set my siblings and me up with easels in the basement, with the Beatles playing at full volume while we explored our creativity and let our imaginations run wild. It’s not hard to understand how the early exposure to art turned into a career path.
Thanks to the basement creative sessions, I started doodling wherever I could. One place in particular that jogs my memory is McCormick’s, a restaurant my family used to go to every Thursday night. I would flip the paper placemat over to the white side and make it my canvas. Using the waxiest crayons, I would draw anything that came to mind.
In more recent years, I attended the University of Dayton where I received my BFA in Graphic Design. I was definitely fortunate to already know what path I wanted to follow. Most first-year students weren’t as fortunate.
During college, I worked as the graphic designer for The Jury Box, a student-run food business located in the law school. As the only designer for The Jury Box, I had a hand in developing the brand by creating promotional pieces and signage that helped the business almost double in profits.
Finding a job after graduating is possibly the scariest hurdle to clear – worse than classes or graduation itself. Luckily, I had some experience working at Petstages, a lifestyle pet-brand, so I knew immediately that Matrix Partners could be a great fit. The small, family-like dynamic and the fact I get to look at pictures of dogs every day certainly helped spark more interest.
Now that I’m here and immersed in client work, I know that I made the right choice. The marketing world is tough and diving in right out of college can be overwhelming, but I’m lucky that I’ve been able to turn a hobby into my profession.
Please join us in welcoming Natalie to the MP Team! We’re excited to see where her creativity takes us.
